Welcome back! Mrs Rogers and I hope you all had a relaxing Easter and the children are all looking forward to the new term and our topic, ‘All Creatures Great and Small.’.
In the first half term, we will be writing different text types linked to our topic of ‘All Creatures Great and Small.’ We will be writing stories, non-chronological reports and focusing on English, Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar. We will also be looking at solving comprehension questions based on the texts we read. Our reading and writing will be relating to the end of Year Two expectations which are on the website.
In Maths we will continue to focus on number, calculation, geometry of shape, measurement and statistics.. We will build on last term’s work on shape and introduce the children to simple fractions. As well as this, we will continue to work on the 2, 5 and 10 times table. The children need to know these in order (2 x 1 = 2, 2 x 2 = 4 etc), out of order (10 x 9 = 90 10 x 6 = 60 etc and when given the answer, be able to say what the question is (35 = 5x7 etc). Our maths will be relating to the end of Year Two expectations which are on the website.
In Science we will be looking at ‘Living things and their habitats.' We will explore and compare the differences between things that are living, dead, and things that have never been alive. We will also identify that most living things live in habitats to which they are suited and describe how different habitats provide for the basic needs of different kinds of animals and plants, and how they depend on each other.
As well as this, we will describe how animals obtain their food from plants and other animals, using the idea of a simple food chain, and identify and name different sources of food.
In R.E. we will be covering the unit of the ‘Baptism.’ We will be learning that Baptism is the ceremony that welcomes people into the church as well as the role of water and light as symbols in the ceremony. We will also be finding out about Jesus’ baptism and reflect on the feeling of belonging.
