Welcome back to school for the autumn term! Mrs Rogers and I hope you have all had a wonderful summer holiday. We are looking forward to getting to know you all over the coming half term.
We have many exciting lessons and activities planned for this half term. Here you will be able to find out more about these.
Our topic this half term is 'The Great Fire of London'.
Where possible the literacy for this half term is linked to our topic 'The Great Fire of London'. We will begin by writing setting descriptions of London, before and during the fire. We will then use our setting descriptions to support us in writing diary entries. We will also be writing stories and newspaper articles. Literacy will be related to the end of Year Two expectations which can be found on this website.
In maths the children will be continuing to build on the skills they learnt in Year One. We will be learning to recognise the place value of any 2-digit number, add and subtract 2-digit and 1-digit numbers, 2-digit and 10s numbers (45-20), two 2-digit numbers (13+34), three 1-digit numbers (4+5+7) and recognise and use the inverse operation. Please continue to help your child to learn their 10, 5 and 2 x tables.
In science we will be focusing on materials and their uses. We will be identifying and comparing the suitability of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses. We will also be finding out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.
We will be using the topic of 'The Great Fire of London' to inspire our art work. As well as this, we will be looking at timelines and creating our own. In geography we will be learning to name, locate and identify the countries and capital cities of the United Kingdom and its surrounding seas.
Our focus in P.E. will be gymnastics. We will be using both the floor and the wall apparatus. Please can you ensure your child has their full kit in school.
Please can you continue to listen to your child read and can they bring in their reading book and diary daily. Homework will be linked to what we are learning in class. It will be set on a Thursday and I will be asking for it back in school the following Tuesday.
Thank you for your support!
