Disadvantaged Pupils
At Trinity St Mary's C of E Primary School, we recognise that disadvantage extends beyond eligibility for Pupil Premium funding. We believe every child is unique and therefore avoid labels, assumptions and stereotypes. We understand that barriers to learning can arise from a range of social, emotional, economic and educational circumstances and that these barriers can affect pupils in different ways.
We identify disadvantaged pupils as those who may experience challenges that impact their learning, wellbeing, attendance, participation or achievement. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Pupils eligible for Pupil Premium funding, including those entitled to Free School Meals in the last six years, looked-after children and previously looked-after children.
- Pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
- Children in Need or those receiving support from social care services.
- Young carers.
- Pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL).
- Pupils experiencing mental health or emotional wellbeing challenges.
- Pupils with long-term medical conditions.
- Pupils who experience family hardship, social isolation or instability.
- Pupils whose attendance, engagement or access to wider opportunities may be affected by personal circumstances.
Guided by our Christian vision and values, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. We aim to:
- Provide high-quality teaching that meets the needs of every learner.
- Remove barriers to participation and achievement.
- Promote high aspirations and a culture of success for all.
- Ensure equitable access to enrichment opportunities, leadership roles and the wider curriculum.
- Develop pupils' cultural capital and prepare them for future success.
- Support attendance, wellbeing and positive relationships.
- Work in partnership with families and external agencies to provide timely and effective support.
Our ambition is that every pupil, regardless of background or circumstance, feels valued, belongs within our school community and is empowered to reach their full potential.
