ANNUAL GOVERNANCE STATEMENT OF THE GOVERNING BODY OF

TRINITY ST. MARY’S CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRIMARY SCHOOL – 2025/2026

In accordance with Government requirements for all governing bodies, the 3 core strategic functions are:

  1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
  2. Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.
  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

The governing body at Trinity St. Mary’s are very proud of the commitment that all staff give to our pupils, this enables them to thrive and each reach their individual potential. We intend for their time at primary school to be a happy, fulfilled experience, during which, they are educated in a caring, Christian environment.

REVIEW OF GOVERNANCE AT TRINITY ST. MARY'S SCHOOL 2025-2026

During this year, the governors have reviewed and participated in, many aspects of school life at Trinity St. Mary’s.

A priority area to monitor is always the wellbeing of our pupils and members of staff.  Pupil attendance was reviewed and compliance with the statutory expectation to attend school. Governors were advised of necessary changes to staffing and participated in recruitment processes.

Subject areas have been monitored, enabled by meetings with staff and further reports prepared for governing body meetings.  Preparation towards statutory tests, including: Year 6 SATS, phonics screening, multiplication tests and Early Years assessments were discussed and results reviewed to inform future planning.

Financial matters were an important focus, this included receiving reports on various income and expenditure and external professional contracts, to ensure compliance with expectations of best value.  Within tight constraints, a balanced budget was achieved.  We have worked with St. Joseph’s primary to manage the process of employing a new catering contractor for school lunches and monitored changes to the school’s banking payment system.

Specific areas have continued to be monitored by individual governors, these include; Safeguarding, Health and Safety and SEND. There has also been oversight of matters relating to the buildings and general premises, regarding the joint site.

All required governor training has been completed, this included Cyber security, GDPR and Safeguarding.  To meet the statutory requirements of ‘Benedict’s Law’, all governors completed Anaphylaxis training and agreed the associated policy.

The results of the survey regarding changes to the school uniform were reviewed.  Following an overwhelming majority of responses from families, the uniform will not change, except for a few small tweaks to meet with government guidance regarding branded items.

During this year, Mrs Leann Tindall resigned as a Parent Governor, we are grateful to Leann for her contributions.  The school routinely notifies parents of any Parent Governor vacancy.

Governors often accompany pupils on trips out of school, including the weekly swimming trips. Pupils are fortunate to have opportunities to enhance classroom learning on their travels, equally, themed days and memorable weeks within school reinforce the curriculum and have been very enjoyable for all.  The Remembrance displays outside the school were a source of great pride to our TSM community.  It was humbling to hear positive comments from the general public who were touched by the efforts of our pupils and staff.

Whilst maintaining their usual duties, Governing body plans for 2026-27 include working with external professional advisors to ensure that all pupils throughout Trinity St, Mary’s attain their potential, while they are educated in a caring, Christian environment.
