Welcome to Class One. Mrs Woolley, Mrs Clacy and I are very excited for the Spring Term.
Below is what we will be learning about...
Our topic this half term is 'Funny Bones'
Our topic work will be based around the Funny Bones theme. We will be transforming our home corner into a toy shop where the children will be able to dress up as their favourite characters. The children will be able to role play buying toys and will decorate the area to make it look like the dark, dark street from the story.
In science, we are going to learn about materials. We will be looking at objects and the materials from which they are made. We will compare and group a variety of everyday materials on the basis of their simple physical properties. We will also be designing a house for Funny Bones.
In maths, the children will be building on their number work, continuing to practise accurate counting, sequencing of numbers, adding up and taking away. They will also be learning about fractions, ½ and ¼ of both shapes and objects.
It is important for the children to be constantly practising their number bonds to 20, as well as counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10s.
In literacy, we will be basing our writing around our topic. We will be writing using a variety of styles including; instructions, lists and captions, poetry, stories and letters.
We will be comparing old toys and modern toys in history. The children will learn about how toys have changed and what children used to play with a long time ago.
