Welcome to Class 2. It has been a lovely start to the half term. Mrs Rogers, Mrs Sharpe, Mrs Milham and I have all enjoyed getting to know you all!
This half term we are learning about 'The Great Fire of London'. We are learning about how the fire started and why it spread so quickly.
We will be using 'The Great Fire of London to inspire our writing. We will be writing different text types which will include setting descriptions, story writing, letter writing, diary writing and we will be writing newspaper reports.
In maths we will be learning all about 'Place Value'. We will be learning to recognise the tens and ones in two digit numbers and partition and recombine them in different ways. We will also be learning to compare numbers and count in steps of 2, 5, 10 and 3. Later on this half term we will be moving on to learn about addition and subtraction. This will later include adding and subtracting a two digit number to and from a two digit number.
Please can you ensure you continue to read for 15 minutes every night. This will really support you with both your word reading and comprehension skills. In year 2 you are developing your independence and you are learning to change your own reading books. The adults will continue to remind you to change your own books. Remember when you come in to school to take you own reading book and reading diary out of your bag and put it in to the correct basket. Please can you also make sure you come in to school with a named water bottle, a named jumper and PE Kit. Homework will be given out on a Thursday and due back in to school on a Tuesday. You will be quizzed on your spellings on a Wednesday.
Remember to practice your 2, 5 and 10 times tables at home!
Thank you for a wonderful start to the school year! I am feeling very proud of how well you have all settled back in to school life!
