Class 4

Welcome to Class 4!

Welcome to Class 4. Mrs Bunn and I hope you had a restful and enjoyable Easter break and are as excited about the coming term as we are!

Our topic for this term is 'Exciting Egypt'.

The first half term we will be using the film ‘The Prince of Egypt’ as a cross curricular focus. Year 4 literacy requirements include developing our story writing, play scripts and persuasive texts. We will create a playscript inspired by the film and what we learn about our topic. Our final product will be to perform and record. We will then watch these back. For the persuasive text unit, the children will write a letter persuading the school to take us to Egypt! We can only hope!

Our Art and DT this term will be linked to our topic. We will be designing, making and painting model mummies! I am very excited to see these!

We will also be creating artwork inspired by the Egyptian Gods and hieroglyphics!

In Numeracy, we will be focusing on units of measure, telling the time, looking at analogue and digital time and solving problems. We will also look at fractions and organising, presenting, analysing and interpreting data in tables, diagrams and tally charts, using ICT as appropriate.

Please continue to support your children in learning their times tables 1-12 as we strive for all children to meet this end of year expectation. We can do it!

This half term we will be learning about Sound and Animals, including human beings. In the latter, we will be exploring the different ways in which our bodies work, including the digestive system and teeth- looking at the different types of teeth and their functions. Watch out sweet-eaters! In the former, we will explore how different sounds are made, looking more in depth at pitch and volume.

Finally, our R.E. topic for this first half term is all about God's transforming power and how the Holy Spirit can help us and guide us to become more like Jesus. We will then move on to looking at Islam. We will particularly focus on the importance of prayer in Islam.

So many exciting things to look forward to in our final term together!
